I’ve been using Rogaine (minoxidil) for more than 12 years to slow hair loss. I started taking the oral medicine Proscar when I heard that this drug could also help. It worked well, better than Rogaine, but with side effects: Climax during intercourse was diminished. So I ground up five 5-mg tablets and put them into a one-month supply of Rogaine liquid. I put the solution on my scalp. It works like a charm, and I have no more sexual side effects. I tried not using the Proscar, and my hair began falling out immediately, so the mixture is better than Rogaine alone.
Finasteride is the active ingredient in both Proscar (for prostate enlargement) and Propecia (for male pattern baldness). It blocks conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which causes both problems.

Oral finasteride has been linked to sexual side effects. Your experiment might have sidestepped this problem. We could find no scientific study of this.
One caution: Finasteride in any form must be kept away from pregnant women. DHT is essential for a male fetus to develop masculine characteristics.

CRANSTON, R.I., June 29 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The political pundits and campaign strategists are overlooking one key to candidate success in the 2008 presidential race, and the history proves it, said Dr. Robert Leonard, who is offering his 20 years of experience to the discussion. “Hair is the winning factor,” he said.
“The historical record comes down squarely against balding candidates and shows that America wants presidents with hair,” said Leonard, a hair loss expert.
Call it the hair factor. It’s an indicator more accurate than the Presidential Height Index. The only exceptions have been Eisenhower and Zachary Taylor.
Leonard is Founder and Chief Surgeon at Leonard Hair Transplant Associates of Massachusetts and Rhode Island. With 21 years of experience treating hair loss patients, he knows how the public treats bald people. He is offering some insights on the primary races.
When it comes to presidential campaigns, hair matters, Leonard said, citing a Harris poll. In May, Harris Interactive noted that Mitt Romney, with trademark hair, had lost significant ground on his balding rivals. Harris posed the question: “Have American attitudes toward baldness changed?”
“No,” said Leonard. Just one month later, Romney closed the gap in the polls. “Mitt Romney has the thickest, fullest hair among the leading contenders, and the others cannot match him because of their hair loss,” Leonard said.
On the Republican side, Romney, Rudy Giuliani and John McCain have been defining themselves on the war, national security and moral issues. “Giuliani and McCain are also up against thinning hair and how it affects voter behavior,” Leonard said.

Meanwhile, Fred Thompson, the favorite candidate of the balding blogosphere, is polling well in the early going. It won’t last, Leonard said. “Society views hair loss as a liability, and given a choice, will pick the person with better hair. This occurs in the workplace, in dating, and in politics.”
Presidential candidates face the same challenges that he has watched patients battle for 20 years, he said. “Unfortunately, when people compete for approval in their careers or in social settings, hair loss often works against them.”
Among the Democratic frontrunners, hair loss weighs less on the race. “But astute observers should consider where hair comes into play,” Leonard said. “For example, John Edwards is trailing in the polls behind Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, but Edwards, who is famous for his hair, could once again be the running mate.”
About Dr. Leonard. Dr. Robert Leonard has specialized in treating men and women with hair loss for the past 21 years. He is Past President and serves on the Board of Governors of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery. His offices are in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, where he treats New Englanders as well as patients from throughout the United States and the world. Dr. Leonard is a Fellow of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery and is certified by the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery. He lectures around the world and has appeared as an expert on female and male pattern hair loss and their current treatments, including hair transplant surgery, medical intervention, laser therapy, and ethics.

Think hair loss is just a problem for older men? Dr. Alan Bauman reports on a new survey that finds hair transplants are more in demand for men in their 20s and 30s.
Boca Raton, FL (PRWEB) June 25, 2007 — When it comes to hair loss, most people think it’s a problem that only affects older men — but a new survey finds that young men are more likely to seek out hair restoration surgery.
According to the ISHRS 2007 Practice Census, men in their 20s and 30s are now more likely to get hair transplants than those in their 40s or 50s — a significant demographic shift from two years ago.
“Hair loss isn’t just a problem for middle-aged men,” said Alan J. Bauman, M.D., a prominent U.S. hair restoration physician and ISHRS member. “Some men start going bald when they’re in college, and most men begin to see early signs of male pattern hair loss in their late 20s and early 30s. However, this new survey shows that young men are much more sensitive about their hair loss and more willing to seek treatment.”

The ISHRS survey found that:
* Men in their 30s were the age group most likely to get a hair transplant
* 31-percent of men in their 30s had hair transplants, versus 26-percent for 40-something men
* 17-percent of men in their 20s had hair transplants, versus 16-percent for 50-something men
* Hair transplant surgeries for men aged 30 to 39 increased 2.4-percent between 2004 and 2006
* Hair transplant surgeries for men aged 20 to 29 increased 2.1-percent between 2004 and 2006
The ISHRS survey also reported that Americans spent more than $1.2 billion on hair restoration treatments and over 94,000 had hair transplants in 2006. Throughout the world, the number of hair transplants is also increasing dramatically, as the survey reported a 34-percent jump in these procedures in just two years. The number of female patients also climbed by 2.4-percent - from 11.4-percent in 2004 to 13.8-percent in 2006.

There was a real buzz in the air at the Dovercourt Boys and Girls Club where spectators were aghast as its head honchos took it all off.
Their hair, that is.
Clumps were flying hither and yon as executive director Tony Puopolo, a.k.a. Chief Fun Guy, and program boss Matteo Severino got sheared like sheep.
But there was nary a bleat from either one.
The scheme helped raise money and awareness about a second-storey addition planned for the Westmoreland Ave. club.
Construction on the $1.2 million project, which will include a dance studio, computer lab, lounge, greenhouse and even a planetarium is to begin next year.
It will be the pinnacle of the club’s 50th anniversary celebration.
This week’s close shave brought the Dovercourt Boys and Girls Club $2,500 closer to the goal.
Once the second floor and other renovations are complete, the club will welcome 100 more children into its overwhelmingly hugely popular summer day camp.
“There’s method to the madness,” Puopolo laughed, adding he needed a little off the sides.
It’s all for a good cause, he said, and the community, as usual, stepped up to the plate to ensure the fundraiser was a success.
What could be more important than the wellbeing of Toronto’s children, many from immigrant, low-income or single-parent families. For these kids, the club is the centre of their universe.
During the school year, they come to play sports in the gym, do homework on the computers or get help from high school students who volunteer as tutors.
At camp, they’re too busy to even think about mischief so it’s no wonder parents lined up at 10 p.m. the night before registration opened last month, desperate to sign their kids up for camp.
Space is sorely limited.
There was only room for 200 at the club’s home base on Westmoreland.

Another 50 were accommodated at a second site on Randolph.
“We had to turn 100 kids away,” said Puopolo. Within a few hours after the doors opened, both camps were full.
It’s been that way for years.
The cost of the camp, $30 per week, isn’t the only attraction. Parents and kids are drawn to it because of the programs and the people who make it special.
Most are from the neighbourhood and know every inch of the club.
“Seventy per cent of staff are members,” said Puopolo. “I came here as a kid in 1960.”
They come back to give back.
“At camp, kids share, they develop leadership skills and try new things,” Puopolo said.
“They feel good about themselves when they succeed at something they’ve never done.”
One of the projects is a yearbook that features all the camp activities. Then there’s swimming and games, drama and sports. There are outings twice a week, and support from the Fresh Air Fund covers the camp’s transportation costs.
Whether it’s Wonderland, Marineland, Centre Island or Ontario Place, campers are soaking it all up.
Each of us can contribute to the happiness of 25,000 children in the Greater Toronto Area by supporting the Fresh Air Fund.
The children come from families that struggle to put food on the table and a roof over their heads.
We can lessen their burden.

Whether it’s long, short, poker straight or bushy enough to be mistaken for a bird’s nest, one thing’s for sure - losing your hair packs an emotional wallop.
And that has spawned a $7-billion-a-year industry in North America as people shell out big bucks for hair transplants, a plethora of lotions, potions and clinically tested drugs that promise to restore their locks.
Scientists from around the world are meeting in Vancouver this week at the fifth International Congress on Hair Research.
Until Saturday, they’ll discuss hair loss involving diet and stress, a disease that strips hair from men, women and children, chemotherapy-induced hair loss, stem cell therapy, hair surgery and even hirsutism or excessive hair growth.
Dr. Kevin McElwee, a research scientist with a doctoral degree in hair biology, works at the Hair Research Laboratory - part of Vancouver General Hospital’s Skin Care Centre.
McElwee says people have such an emotional attachment to their hair that they’ll try just about anything.
“It’s just so common, about 60 to 70 per cent of the world’s population experiences pattern baldness,” he said. “It affects women as well - 40 per cent of women to some extent.”
No treatment is completely effective, says McElwee, although men who start using one of the two most common drugs early on seem to have the best results.
But side effects like sexual impotency don’t go over well for people who are trying to restore their youth and sexuality with a full head of hair.
McElwee has tried one of the drugs but says the results weren’t good enough for him to keep taking it every day for the rest of his life.
“I was involved in some of the drug trials, so I was one of the guinea pigs,” he says.
“After a time I succumbed like most people do. I was getting tired of using these treatments every day, day in, day out. Once you start you’ve got to keep going.”
So after missing a dose of the drug for a day here, a week there, McElwee decided to call it quits.
“I’m 37 and to keep going (taking the drug) for another 20, 30 years just doesn’t seem very appealing. Perhaps to some extent I adjusted to the idea that I was going to go bald and I was more willing to accept that.”
McElwee says while the causes of baldness remain a mystery one thing’s clear: it’s becoming more common.
Drugs Online - Buy Drugs Online at reasanoble prices.DrugOnline.cc provides confortable and easy way to order drugs online including drugs free shipping.
And that’s leading scientists to believe environmental factors are involved, along with genetics from either side of a person’s family.
McElwee says that while men may be more accepting of losing their hair, for women the very idea is so traumatic that some choose not to undergo chemotherapy when they’re diagnosed with cancer so they can keep their crowning glory.
McElwee, who is also a professor in the University of British Columbia’s dermatology and skin science department, focuses his research on alopecia areata, an auto immune disease - like rheumatoid arthritis - where the immune system targets hair follicles.
People with the disease - including men, women and children as young as eight - sometimes have a few bald patches on their heads or can lose all their hair, including eyelashes.
“There’s a lot of emotion tied up with losing hair and with alopecia areata you can actually lose the hair very quickly so you can go from full, normal hair to universal hair loss in a matter of a couple of months.”
McElwee’s lab is focusing on stress as a factor in the disease, for which there are several support groups, including a summer camp for kids in the United States.
The hottest topic in hair research currently is tissue engineering, which involves the growth and culturing of stem cells from hair follicles.
Studies are being conducted to change the cells into muscle and nerve cells because compared to stem cells from other organs including the liver or kidney, ones from hair follicles are easily accessible.
Scientists are also researching whether implanting the cells into bald heads can generate hair growth.

Men are not always the only ones plagued with hair loss. Sometimes women can suffer from this problem, as well, ranging from minor to extreme. There are many different health problems that can lead to hair loss or thinning: alopecia, hormone imbalance, PCOS, medications, and just plain genetics. It is not uncommon for women to go through a major “shedding” several months after the birth of a baby. But take heart! There are several tricks you can try to improve the look of your mild to moderate hair loss.
A very simple and cheap solution to improving your locks is to use the power of optical illusion. Many times hair thinning will be highlighted in women with darker shades of hair because the scalp is white. The dark hair that they do have clashes with the light color of the scalp and draws attention to the thinned areas. Simply pick up eyeliner that is a similar shade to your hair. Before styling it, fill in the white scalp areas that show the most. Use your finger to smudge it and spread it throughout and style as usual. You will be amazed and how much fuller your hair will look by camouflaging your scalp to match your hair.
On the same principle, lightening the color of your hair, even a shade or two, can also lessen the glaring white scalp areas. Lighter highlights at the crown of your head can also be an option. Be careful and use a natural, conditioning product to do this so that you will not damage the hair that you do have. If you don’t feel comfortable doing this on your own, the money paid to a professional will be worth it when you see the results of a more voluminous look in the mirror.
Switching your hair care products to a volumizing formula is another inexpensive way to help your thinning tresses. This method works best in conjunction with some of the above suggestions. I highly recommend Aussie’s Volumizing product line. This one change can really help make the most of the hair you do have.

Perhaps your hair loss is a bit worse and more on the moderate end of the spectrum. Many times the area of loss is on the top of the head at the crown. The following method is a bit more complex, but well worth it in this case. Carefully take a pair of hair cutting scissors and snip very small locks of hair from the thicker areas of your head. A good place to do this at would be in the back underneath by your neck. Make sure the locks are small and snipped close to the scalp so you can have a long piece to work with.
After obtaining 2-3 small locks you will need to bind each one together, separately, to keep them from falling apart. This will give you a few little hairpieces to work with. At the end of each lock where you actually cut it, use a small amount of adhesive at the tip. A good adhesive to consider would be the type you use for false eyelashes. Using your fingers, work the tip into a flat shape and allow it to dry. Once you have completed this you will have a small lock to use to fill in areas that are badly thinning.
Using the same eyelash adhesive, simply affix the flat end of the lock to your scalp in inconspicuous areas that will blend in easily with your existing hair. Trim the lock, if necessary, to match the length of your style in that area. Do this only after you have brushed out your hair and are ready to actually style it. Use a curling iron and pick to blend the false locks into your hair and style as usual. These false locks can stay affixed for up to a couple of days. Once you are ready to remove them, simply peel them off your scalp, shampoo and air dry.
Finally, and most importantly, talk to your doctor if you have had an unusual amount of hair loss that is out of the ordinary. This could be a sign of a medical condition that needs treatment and may be correctable with medication. Simple blood work usually is all it takes to identify many of these conditions. Your physician can also recommend other medications that can help regrow hair. A simple over-the-counter remedy is Women’s Rogaine. Again, be sure to discuss this before using it if you are trying to become pregnant, are already pregnant, or are nursing a baby.

June 5, 2007 - (PRESS RELEASE) Elline Surianello began losing her hair at age 14. After years of seeking a solution to her problem, she took matters into her own hands by creating LeMetric Hair Center
Related Links
There are 46 million women in the United States who suffer from hair thinning or hair loss, Elline points out, yet America hasn’t acknowledged the fact that this is a problem. “If no one else can help us — I will,” she says.
LeMetric, headquartered in New York City, provides high-end fashion hair systems for women. LeMetric is based on measurements and fit; and so, the name LeMetric evolved. Each LeMetric system is made from the finest quality hair and woven one strand at a time. After Ladies Home Journal took an in-depth look at Elline’s story in 1992, over 9000 women wanted her help.
“It is important to note that we aren’t talking about wigs; we’re talking about a lifestyle!” Elline says. “You can’t swim in a wig, you can’t shower in a wig, you can’t go in a convertible with a wig, you can’t happily live your life in a wig. You also can’t live a healthy life with toxic glue binding a synthetic wig to your head. But when you’re handed something better that is customized to you and your lifestyle, you can continue to feel like the woman that you are and hopefully even better. ”
Elline’s system is not a wig, hair weave or extension. Weaves don’t work as well with Caucasian hair, and extensions don’t work for the top of the head, she explains. If you’re losing hair from the front of the forehead back there is no way to attach extensions to your balding spot, she adds. Instead, a silk ring with all natural fibers is incorporated into the existing hair to create a base. Then the system made from all natural human hair is applied to that silk base which enables the process to be non-invasive, all-natural and permanent or semi-permanent. Once the system in attached to the ring, it is built such that it covers the top of the head, it can even give you bangs, so that the bald areas are covered (with out having to be glued). .
Drugs Online - Buy Drugs Online at reasanoble prices.DrugOnline.cc provides confortable and easy way to order drugs online including drugs free shipping.
The LeMetric process begins with a consultation, when the client’s measurements are taken, and the hair, color, texture, cut and style are each selected. A diagram, mold and hair sample are then taken, so that the piece can be built. The fit and comfort are crucial to how women feel with their hair.
“Once the client is fitted with the right hair system for her image, a transformation occurs; on the inside and out,” Ellline says.”It’s not just about the hair, it’s about projecting your femininity and sexuality on the outside and hair is a very powerful tool.”
During the initial consultation, a diagram maps out exactly where the hair thinning or hair loss has occurred on the scalp, the texture of the hair is examined, and the best color for the woman’s face is assessed. Then, Elline’s manufacturers fashion a hair system designed specifically to add bulk where it’s needed and match the woman’s existing hair perfectly. The system is sewn together, one strand of hair at a time. Once the system is ready, it is attached by a sewing technique that threads the hair into the existing hair. Nothing invasive touches the scalp. In most cases, the hair sits on top of the woman’s existing hair to add bulk, and just looks like she has a fuller head of hair than her natural. Next — the system is cut, colored and styled along with her existing hair, to look like a unified ‘do. Typically — the system can last approximately 3 years, with routine maintenance visits to the salon every two months or so, which is typical of women who cut and color their hair. The hair replacement system costs $2500 on average — but lasts 2 to 3 years. Price is based on square-inches of hair. It is all authentic hair imported from Italy.
